How Photography Has Changed Over the Past 200 Years

Taking pictures throughout one's life has been a part of American culture for over a hundred years now. The camera was first introduced in the United States in the early 1800s and was commercialized later in the century. From the time it was first put into the American store until now, the camera and the technology of the camera has changed significantly. Also, with the camera, the items that hold the photographs have changed significantly as well. For example, photograph frame lighting is now ready to highlight the photographs they hold and there is also such thing as a led photograph light which undoubtedly emphasizes the photograph. The art light is something which has most undoubtedly changed with the technology that came with the contemporary day camera. However, it is the camera that has dictated these changes in the frames.

The first valid camera was invented in 1814. The big, clunky motor was used to take still life pictures in black and white. The photographs practically always came out scratchy and faded looking, but for the time, this motor was very impressive. No one probably could have imagined how photography would have changed over the next 200 years.

The next big accomplishment in photography came with the introduction of color to the photographs in 1861. In fact, some photographs from the American Civil War can be found in color. It took awhile for color cameras to be facilely ready to the public, so for the next thirty years, color photographs were still a relatively new, revolutionary technology.

A change in the way photography was done happened when the disposable camera was invented. This camera enabled travelers to take uncostly cameras on vacations without carrying a big, costly one with them instead. Also, many of these disposable cameras were made to be waterproof, so population could take photographs underwater on a snorkeling or scuba diving trip.

Next in the photography world came the introduction of the digital camera. This made it so that photographs could be taken and then loaded into the computer to be sent to population via the internet or they could be sent to most drug market to be industrialized at a specific time, normally set by the customer. This new technology revolutionized the way population stored and used their photographs.

Finally, today there have been many new additions to the camera technology. Cell phones now have a picture-taking quality to them. Also, there is such thing as high definition photographs, which makes the photograph even clearer than it already was before this digital technique. Probably the newest thing to the world of photography is the camera that has a view on both sides of it for those who do not want to have to rely on strangers to take a photograph for them and their friends. With all of these advancements arrival in shorter and shorter amounts of time, it will be interesting, in the upcoming decade, to see what other changes will be made in this market.

Rare Dolphins Caught on Film

Rare Dolphins Caught on Film Tube. Duration : 1.48 Mins.

CHEN: Camera crews have captured the first ever footage of a rare species of dolphins, the Australian snubfin. The snubfins are a species that has only been known to scientists for three years. STORY: A group of researchers looking to the creatures off the Kimberley Coast in Western Australia stumbled upon dozens of dolphins on Sunday. The dolphins are also nicknamed "Snubbies" for their blunt dorsal fin and rounded snout. [Deb Thiele, Dolphin Researcher]: "Over the last couple days we've had fantastic weather and feeding activity and the right tide so it's some of the best sightings we've had up here." According to the research team, the sighting is the best yet as the dolphins were playful and poked their heads above water, as opposed to other sightings, where they tended to stay underwater. The Australian snubfin dolphin was discovered in 2005. Scientists are hoping that DNA samples taken from the animals will confirm they are the newest species or sub-species of dolphin. The snubfin dolphin is known as the world's ugliest dolphin, however many who have seen the snubfin disagree. [Tammie Matson, World Wildlife Fund Spokesperson]: "It may be the world's ugliest dolphin, some people have said that, but to those of us who have seen them, I am absolutely blown away by this creature, they are absolutely endearing." The discovery of a new mammal is extremely rare. Until recently the snubfin dolphin was thought to be an Irrawaddy dolphin.

History of the Camera

Early cameras of the 16th and 17th century were able to task images onto paper or glass but the study of capturing, processing and printing the images took many more years. Up until the 17th century, scientists believed that light was composed basically of the 'white' that is perceived by the human eye. It took the investigate done by renowned physicist Isaac Newton to witness that light is undoubtedly composed of a spectrum of colors. While he made a big contribution to the study of optics (that is at the core of camera advances) with this discovery, Newton did not undoubtedly have anyone to do with camera amelioration per se.

The early camera that first became a phenomenon was a diminutive more than a pinhole camera and can be traced back to 1558. It was called the Camera Obscura. The Camera Obscura was seen as a drawing tool for a clearer and realistic portrayal of objects. It was in the early 19th century that an invention named the Camera Lucida was introduced by Cambridge scientist William Hyde Wollaston that consisted of an optic gadget that could help an artist view a distant scene or someone or object on a paper face that he or she was using to draw. In other words the artist gets to view a superimposed image of a subject on paper and this image could be effectively used to endeavor to draw, trace or paint it. Both the Camera Obscura and the Camera Lucida in case, granted an image that was temporary, which could not be lastingly captured on to paper for later reference.

Underwater Film Camera

Studies however prolonged well into the 1800's on how to undoubtedly capture the image onto material. It was while this time, nearby 1822 that French researcher Joseph Nicephore Niepce, created the first photo by using paper that was coated with a chemical. The image would not stay permanently on the paper and would disappear after a short while. Even so, despite the short-lived nature of the image, the understanding of photography was born with this experiment and paved the way for further study and amelioration in this field.

Capturing images to keep them longer and permanently became the next big quest for researchers. Someone else Frenchman Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre partnered with Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1829, to institute the process of creating permanent photographs. Joseph Niépce died in 1833 but Daguerre prolonged with the work and succeeded in 1837 after many long years of experimentation. The process of capturing photographic images that would not fade away, introduced by Daguerre came to be known as the 'daguerreotype'.

The word 'photography' was coined by scientist Sir John F.W. Herschel in 1839 and it is undoubtedly is derived from two Greek words 'photos' meaning light and 'graphein' meaning draw.

A slightly more developed version of the daguerreotype called the Calotype process that makes manifold copies inherent using the negative and inescapable recipe became ready very soon after. In fact, it was while the 1840's that the use of photographic images in advertisements first started and cameras made their mark on the power of optic communication. It was not much later, in the 1850's that photographers first started experimenting with underwater photography of seascapes.

Up until 1850, the process of capturing images was cumbersome requiring upto half an hour of light exposure. The discovery made in 1851 by Frederick Scott Archer was a blessing since the new recipe termed the Collodion process called for just 2-3 seconds of light exposure to capture an image.

Prior to 1871, photographers went through a amelioration process where they had to coat the plate with wet chemical each and every time and process the image immediately. With the invention the gelatin dry plate silver bromide process by Richard Leach Maddox, negatives did not have to be developed immediately. This was an foremost discovery since up until then the captured image had to be processed instantly.

Kodak created in 1888 by George Eastman has been a modern day pioneer of sorts in cameras and photography for the masses. George Eastman and the scientists who worked with him at Kodak developed the photographic film in 1889 and made it ready in rolls for the mass use of consumers. An foremost milestone in our entertainment and communication history was the amelioration of transparent roll film by Eastman. This amelioration led to Someone else key invention - the appeal photo camera by Thomas Edison's in 1891.

-->Modern Times

During the 20th century the pace of technology amelioration in cameras and photography prolonged at an accelerated pace much like many other key technology developments. While any key inventions like car, telephone and the gramophone description happened in the later half of the 19th century, it is the last 100 years that saw major developmental work in many areas of communications technology and as well as in other fields - Tv, aircrafts, Pcs, digital technology, digital cameras, movable phones, fax machines and the internet, to name a few.

In the case of the camera, the developments simplified the whole process of photography, production it accessible to one and all at affordable prices and the camera manufactures denizens of our times made it into a mass phenomenon. The first mass use camera became ready at the turn of the 20th century and can be traced back to the year 1900. There are hundreds of models of cameras ready today both for the amateur as well as the pro and the camera is an foremost part of any family's repertoire of must have gadgets.

-->20th century chronology in the history of the camera:

1913: 35 mm still-camera created

1927: The flash bulb introduced by general electric Co. (The understanding of camera flash existed much before but was based on the use of a flash light powder that was invented by German researchers)

1935- 1941: Kodak starts marketing Kodachrome film and subsequently launches Kodacolor negative film. Canon released the Hansa Canon in 1936, the first 35mm focal-plane shutter camera.

1948: The understanding of the Polaroid camera is introduced in the market. American scientist Edwin Land developed the process for instant photography. Later Polaroid Corporation developed the 'instant color' film nearby 1963.

1957: Frenchman Jaques Yves Cousteau invented the first waterproof 35mm camera for underwater photography named the Calypso Phot. The actual camera was developed by the Belgian airplane technical designer Jean de Wouters based on the blueprint and suggestions given to him by Cousteau.

1972: The electronic camera that does not need film was created and patented by Texas Instruments. This is however not the same as a digital camera though you don't need film in digital cameras as well. The get underway of the digital camera is still many years away.

1975: Kodak's experiments with digital imaging kicked off nearby the mid seventies but it will take Someone else 20 years before a digital camera for the home consumer store is launched.

1978 - 1980: Asian players like Konica and Sony begin to make their mark. The 'point and shoot' automatic focus camera is launched by Konica while Sony starts talking about the camcorder and demonstrates a prototype.

1981: Sony launches a commercially ready electronic still camera. Similar to the 1972 invention by Texas Instruments, the Sony electronic camera came with a mini disc on which images were recorded and stored. The recorded images could be later printed or viewed on a monitor using a reader device.

1985: Digital processing technology makes its entry. Digital imaging and processing is introduced by Pixar.

1986: The camera manufactures becomes even more consumer focused and taps the fun and voyage connotations behind camera usage, with the get underway of the understanding of the disposable singular use cameras. Fuji is credited with the amelioration of this concept.

Also in 1986 - 1987, Kodak started taking giant strides in digital development. Digital means, the photographic image is divided into tiny units of dots or squares known as pixels. Pixels are the programmable units of an image that can be processed by computers. Each image could be made up of millions of pixels. The use of pixels in digital technology allows storing large volumes of pixels to deliver high definition print quality.

1990: Kodak introduces Photo Cd's. It is a theory of storing photographic images on Cd and then viewing them on a computer. With this amelioration the user-friendly coming of the camera manufactures began to take concrete shape.

1991: Kodak introduces a digital camera targeted at professionals and journalists. Kodak is credited with the invention of a pixel based camera technology known to us as the digital camera. Digital cameras don't use film similar to their predecessor electronic cameras but the storage recipe is entirely distinct and the final photo is of much higher resolution. In a digital camera photos are recorded and stored in digital form. This digital data can be transferred to a computer and processed for printing. Kodak and Canon are well known digital camera manufacturers and there are also any other key brands as well.

1994: The Apple QuickTake camera, a home use digital camera is launched. This is followed by the get underway of a clutch of home use digital cameras by Casio, Kodak and others in quick succession while 1995 -'96.

-->The digital era:

The amelioration of digital camera technology is determined to be associated to the amelioration of Tv and Video technology. The theory of transmission and recording of audio-visual images using digital electrical impulses finds use in camera imaging as well.

Through the 1990's the developments prolonged in camera technology, the focus now shifting to the field of digital imaging which is where the hereafter lies. Use-friendly features like software that can download digital images directly from camera onto home computers for storing and sharing on the internet is the new norm in the store place.

The camera, the computer, the software manufactures and the worldwide web are today irrevocably interlinked to empower the user in experiencing the benefits of camera usage to full potential. The innovation that sparked many an invention in the camera manufactures found its way into the digital world as well and prolonged among digital camera manufacturers. while 2001, the Kodak and Microsoft partnership ensured that digital camera manufacturers could use the power of photo exchange Protocol (Ptp) accepted through Windows. The digital photo palpate is a key optic driver in the Internet era. Many of Kodak digital camera models with EasyShare capabilities are compatible with Windows Xp. The Kodak EasyShare software enables users to exchange digital camera pictures directly from camera to their computers and then print the pictures or even email them.

Manufacturers in a associated manufactures like the printing manufactures have adapted their products to be in sync with the images created by digital cameras. Cell phone manufacturers have tied up with digital camera manufacturers to institute new age camera phones in recent years. These camera phones can capture images and share the images through the cell phone.

Among the 21st century digital developments are the developed stock offerings from digital cameras manufacturers and these are sure to occupy an foremost place in the ensuing history of camera development. For instance, the Kodak pro Dcs Pro Slr/c is a high-end digital camera and the Kodak website calls the Dcs Pro Slr models the most feature-rich digital cameras on the market. It has an image sensor that can handle 13.89 million pixels and this makes it the top resolution digital camera available. High resolution determines the sharpness or level of information in photographic images. This is just a see of the capabilities that digital technology places in a user's hands. Digital camera sales figures for 2003 show that the two key players Kodak and Canon have recorded impressive growth.

-->What does the hereafter holds for camera users?

The features offered by digital cameras can be quite mind-boggling for the average user and pretty interesting for most pros. Four key ongoing camera developments that are likely to further improve the process of photography:

1. Greater resolution from even the simplest, low cost camera models

2. Usage in any type of lighting conditions,

3. Compatibility across a range of software, hardware and image types

4. Rich colors and tone

While the higher-end digital evolution continues, the prices of the simple camera have crashed to such an extent that even children and teens are proud owners of simple cameras. The camera and photography interest starts young and this creates a truly large audience base for the camera industry.

And throughout history, it is clear that the endeavor of researchers and developers has been to make the camera ready to a wide section of society. Without camera technology and photography, the other key developments of cinema and Tv would have been delayed and what a boring place the world would have been without Tv and films!!

As for quality, this may be a bit easier to rank. At the top would be Leica, followed by Panasonic, Minolta, Olympus, Yashica, Practika, Pentacon, Fuji, and Zeiss. There are several other brands, and just because they are not on this list does not mean they are bad brands. In fact, in this time there is verily no such thing as "bad camera brand", but there are just distinct brands that verily shine.

SeaLife SL545 SportDiver II Compact 35mm Underwater Camera Specifications

With the SeaLife SL545 SportDiver II Compact 35mm Underwater Camera you'll be ready to snap great photos at depths up to 164 feet. The SportDiver II design features two major components: a small inner camera and a sturdy, waterproof Lexan housing. The Lexan housing is small enough to fit into most BC (Buoyancy Control) pockets, so it is the perfect companion on your favorite dives. The SL545 is both completely waterproof and slightly buoyant. The camera will not sink, but it is heavy enough that if it slips from your hands while you're diving, it won't rush towards the surface.

The compact inner camera can be removed from the housing and used on dry land for excellent vacation snapshots above the sea. The buttons are easy to access and a large "Push Here" shutter-release lever makes it a breeze to snap a shot at any depth--even wearing gloves. The fully automatic 35mm camera has a built in flash and the SportDiver II is fully expandable with all SeaLife accessories. This is a perfect camera for diving, snorkeling, boating, playing by the pool, and just about any other water sport.

Overall, many would say that the Leica could be the best if it was smaller. Many citizen do not like it because it is not one you can fit in your pocket. Though, it is said to be a great film and digital camera nonetheless. Olympus is probably one of the best digital Slr, and if you are willing top pay big bucks for lenses, then this is your best bet.

One thing that should be determined intimately is what class camera you want as well. Some brands do not have good Slr cameras, while others may not have good ultra covenant cameras. There are five categories, and before picking a exact brand you should without fail know which of these you will likely want. The categories contain ultra covenant (very small), covenant (small), creative covenant (a bit bigger than the covenant cameras), Slr-like (larger), and the Slr (the largest). Some brands will not have good Slr cameras, so if you want a good Slr camera, some brands may not be an choice for you. Generally, Sony caries ultra covenant cameras, while Olympus is better known for Slr cameras. Picking a brand is not always something that man can help you with. Often times citizen pick a camera on what they find is appealing. Try out some distinct cameras; see how you like their look, and their interface. It verily comes down to personel preference over anything.

The Best Digital Camera For The Money

Nobody legitimately wants, or needs the best of anything. It doesn't matter, whether it's digital cameras, automobiles, homes, or jet airplanes. What we legitimately want and expect, is value for our money. If I'm going to spend 0 for a camera, then I better get 0 worth of features and potential from that camera. If I spend 00 on a camera, then I better get 00 worth back as well. If you follow a few simple rules, you'll see how easy it is to get the best camera your money can buy.

Acclaimed science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon was famous for a couple of adages known as Sturgeons Laws. My favorite, and the one most relevant to our argument is, "Ninety percent of all things is crap." It's simple, direct and brutally honest. It also legitimately helps narrow down our search. If the camera your finding at is not on at least one top ten list, then drop it from your search. If it doesn't have at least a four star divulge from someone, then drop if off your list. There are so many cameras to pick from these days, there's legitimately no need to determine for whatever less then the best.

Underwater Film Camera

The second step, and a limited more endeavor intensive, is the trial run phase. You need to try out as many of the cameras on your now very short list (thanks to Theodore) as possible. Spend a day, and blitz your beloved camera stores. Go to two or three, and just annoy and pepper the sales staff with as many questions and requests as you can. If you go during off hours, you should have plentifulness of time and space to try out all the cameras you want. See if you can cajole them into letting you take a few home to try out. After this exercise, your short list should be legitimately short. Maybe even a list of 1.

Of procedure if the above seems like to much work for you slackers out there, here's my short list of great cameras that are all money well spent. In the under 0 category, the Canon PowerShot A570Is. It's a simple point and shoot with 4x zoom lens, image stabilization, and Canon reliability. For the portability minded ultra compact FaceBook crowd, you can't go wrong with the Canon PowerShot Sd1000 Digital Elph. Slightly less image potential then the A570Is, and slightly more expensive, but a very easy traveler. other beloved compact of mine is the Olympus Stylus 790Sw. The only waterproof, shockproof, dust proof, and frost proof camera I know.
